Regency Fireplace Products has partnered with American Forests to launch the One Regency – OneTree program across North America. For every Regency, Hampton and Excalibur product sold in the US and Canada, Regency will plant a tree. Since 1979, Regency has been a leader in the development of clean burning wood and highly efficient gas products. Warming homes wisely ensures that we are responsible custodians of earth’s natural resources, while planting trees offsets carbon emissions and takes one more step to restore nature’s balance. Each quarter, Regency will select an American Forests initiative to contribute towards. Robert Little, Regency Founder & CEO, states “The One Regency, One Tree program confirms our commitment to build high quality, efficient, environmentally sound products.”

American Forests, the nation’s oldest citizen conservation group, has been planting trees for forest restoration since it’s founding in 1875. In 1988, Global ReLeaf was launched to foster the planting of trees to cool the globe. Since then, more than 25 million trees have been planted in 25 countries around the world. “We’re proud to be partnering with Regency Fireplace Products in its program. This unique partnership will help us pursue our mission of growing a healthier world by supporting the planting of tens of thousands of trees to restore forests and ecosystems,” says Gregory Meyer, VP Marketing & Development.

About American Forests

American Forests helps people improve the environment with trees and forests. We are a world leader in tree planting for environmental restoration. We are a pioneer in advancing the science and practice of urban forestry and a primary communicator of the benefits of trees and forests. American Forests helps people identify, recognize and preserve their special trees, and our community-based initiatives help people plan and implement local actions to restore and maintain healthy ecosystems and communities.

If you have a fireplace in your home, then you are a prime candidate for a wood-burning insert. It is usually a much more efficient source of heat than an open fireplace. However, there are a few things to check before you go out and buy the wood-burning insert. The first thing to check is the measurements

Things You’ll Need:

Measuring tape

Pencil

Paper

Stick

Step 1

Take everything out of the fireplace, including any wood racks or fire bricks. You will need to measure from the actual stone of the mortared fireplace and not from any temporary additions.

Step 2

Measure from the center of the deepest part of the back of the fireplace to the front edge. You can do this by holding a stick flat against both sides of the fireplace, parallel with the floor. Now hold the measuring tape against the back of the fireplace and see where it touches the stick. This is the depth of your fireplace.

Step 3

Find the height simply by measuring the distance from the top of the actual opening of the fireplace straight down to the floor. If your fireplace is arched, you will need to measure from the shortest point down.

Step 4

Take the measurement from side to side of the fireplace for the width. Again, if the opening is not square, take the shortest measurement as the width.

Step 5

Include the measurement of your hearth when you gather all these figures. The representative will need to know how much space you have coming out into your room to determine if your fireplace is ready for a wood-burning insert. By Heidi Braley
We did a little research and have found that the pelletizing process takes away any differences the wood may have. So, you may ask, how do I know which pellet fuel is for me? Our answer: QUALITY. The difference in pellets lies in the mill and the brands. When you purchase a brand of pellet, consider the ash content, ash characteristics, pellet length, and maintainence requirements. “Premium pellets are all under 1% ash content, that could be anywhere from around .25% to .8%. After 10 bags of fuel (or approximately 400lbs), that could make the difference between 1lb of ash or over 3lbs of ash.” (quoted from pelletsales.com)

Pellet Benefits

Wood pellets were first engineered in the 1970s in response to an energy shortage in the U.S. and are generally manufactured from wood waste generated in saw mills, furniture manufacturing facilities, paper mills, etc. Burning wood pellets can be used as a substitute for electricity; wood-fueled fireplaces and stoves; or fossil fuels, such as propane or natural gas. Pellet fuel is burned in appliances, such as freestanding stoves, fireplace inserts, furnaces or commercial burners.

Convenience

Clean and allergy-free. No dust or dirt is brought into the home with pellet fuel.

Stored in less space. Four times more pellet fuel can be stored in a given space than cordwood or wood chips. A winter’s supply of pellets for an average home occupies a space roughly 6’ x 6’ x 6’, which makes them easy to store in a small area of a dry garage, basement, utility room or shed.

Easy to use. Load once a day. Precisely regulated fuel feed automatically operates the stove according to owner-determined settings.

Efficiency

This means pellets are a more efficient fuel.

Higher Btu content than cordwood. Wood pellets have a Btu output content of 350,000 per cub. Ft. of fuel, versus 70,000 to 90,000 for cordwood or wood chips. This means pellets produce more heat.

All natural fuel. Once compressed and dried, pellets hold their form with natural lignin, which means no glue or binders are required.

Cleaner burn. Pellet fuel has proven to provide the cleanest burn of any solid fuel. Pellet stoves exhaust an average of 1.2 particulate grams per hour – well below the United States EPA woodburning limit of 7.5 grams. This is because the combustion air can be easily regulated, which optimizes the burn efficiency, and because of pellet’s low moisture content.

Energy from waste. Pellet fuel is made of waste products, such as pallets and manufacturing excess. It is a practical way to utilize biomass materials from sustainable forest initiatives, especially for commercial applications
